We no longer use mainframes to handle simple calculations because we have reached a state of development where by using a simple everyday computer, we can run multiple complex programs at the same time, without having to worry that in case something goes wrong. In case anything should go wrong, we wouldn’t be able to fix it.
Some say that the future of computers in uncertain because of the rate of development. If computers will evolve as fast as they did until now, and they will probably evolve faster, we will be faced with the problem of having computers that are “smarter” that we are. If this is the case, it is no longer a technological issue, but a moral issue. Could we ever allow computers to be “smarter” than us? And if we could, how would we be able to make them realize that we are not obsolete or a threat? Thank god we don’t have to worry about this in the immediate future and we are spared the moral issues for now.
